Had a very relaxing weekend with Hailey overall but it had to come to an end finally. We got up early to get to the PO when it opened and then hit the road. We were on trail by 10:30 after a prolonged struggle with one of my poles (wouldn’t expand) and a brief goodbye to Hailey.
We had a few miles of rough dirt road to get back to the CDT and then a “welcome back” 1000 foot climb. Coffee and a rich breakfast were sloshing round my stomach and we were both pretty roughed up by the climb. Fortunately, the rest of the day was a relatively level jaunt down dirt roads. There was a minor midafternoon thunder and lightning show with a bit of hail and rain thrown in too.
I’m looking forward to a good nights sleep, compared to an air conditioned hotel room, I sleep better in the woods!
