Cooking

This video pretty much speaks for itself:

Trailcooking.com is a great source of trail meal ideas. I’ve found that with a few key ingredients in my bounce box, I can actually make some of these in the little grocery stores I find along the way. Of course, most of the time it’s just ramen noodles and lipton sidekicks on alternating days… but once in awhile I get bored!

After the break, a quick breakdown on the weights of various common cooking setups.

Comparison on the cooking setups:

Alcohol stove:

  • 28g (1oz) Stove
  • ~28g(1oz) Fuel bottle (aka empty water bottle)
  • Fuel is not the most energetic, easy to get anywhere

White gas stove:

  • 200g (7oz) Stove
  • 140g (5oz) Fuel bottle (empty)
  • Uses kerosene or just regular gas, pretty potent stuff, easy to get

Canister stove:

  • 85g (3oz) Stove
  • 130g (4.5oz) Canister (empty)
  • Uses proprietary canisters, hard to get, and realistically you’ll be carrying 2 canisters at a time due to not knowing exactly how full they are
